The
VA Stockton Clinic
Through a unique agreement
with San Joaquin County, the VA Palo Alto Health Care System has expanded
medical and mental health services to San Joaquin County and the
surrounding communities.
Veteran
Eligibility
Most veterans are eligible for VA
health benefits. Basic eligibility for medical benefits is determined by
the character of your discharge (must be in a category other than
dishonorable) and the amount of time you served in the Armed Forces. Generally,
anyone entering the service after September 7, 1980 must have served a
minimum of 24 consecutive months of active duty to be eligible for medical
benefits. A minimum requirement is not necessary for veterans who served
prior to September 7, 1980.
TRICARE
Eligibility
TRICARE services are available for
dependents of active duty personnel and retirees and their dependents.
Currently, individuals 65 years and older are not eligible for TRICARE
benefits.
Primary
Care
When you come to the VA Stockton
Clinic, you will be assigned to a primary care team. Your team consists of
both medical and mental health providers. This team will be in charge of
your care. Our goal is to have you see your assigned provider at all
scheduled and urgent care visits.
Medical
Services
During your initial visit your
provider will perform a complete health evaluation to learn about your
past medical problems (diabetes, heart disease, service connected disabilities,
etc.) and to address your health concerns. Your provider will write or
adjust prescriptions and order lab tests and/or x-rays as necessary. If
you need a consultation with a specialist, your provider can arrange an
appointment and ensure their findings become part of your health care
plan.
Preventive
Health Services
Prevention of illness and promotion
of a healthy lifestyle is important. Your Primary Care Team will be able
to provide cholesterol screens, PAP smears, flu shots, and depression
screening. They can also arrange counseling in exercise, nutrition,
smoking cessation, stress reduction skills and pain management as needed.
Mental
Health Services
Our mental health providers offer
brief individual and group hterapy, as well as psychiatric
consultation/medication. Services are offered to assist veterans who are
dealing with depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
and difficult life problems. Clinicians can help individuals who wish to
learn better coping skills or adopt a more healthy lifestyle.
Transportation
Public transportation is available.
Additionally, there is shuttle
service between all divisions of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. For
more information call (925) 447-2560, extension 36208.
