At San Joaquin General Hospital, volunteers provide such valuable services as working at the information desk, providing escort services, working on the nursing floors, assisting in the outpatient department, dismissing patients, working in various clerical areas, taking photos of newborn babies, working in the gift shop, and "cuddling" newborns. Volunteers not only provide services for patients which might not otherwise be provided but also assist and relieve regular employees in their work. If you know of someone interested in being a volunteer, have them contact Volunteer Services at 468-6041 or lcarmona@sjgh.org.
The San Joaquin General Hospital Auxiliary, established in 1980, provides a variety of volunteer services to the hospital. Auxiliary members conduct fund raising efforts in a number of ways, including book and jewelry sales and through proceeds from the Gift Shop and the vending machines. There are over 300 individuals who dedicated 18,000 hours, volunteering their time at San Joaquin General Hospital in 2001. Committed to making a difference, Auxiliary members devote time with patients, including infants in the neonatal intensive care nursery. They raised over $100,000 last year in needed equipment and supplies for patients. Call 468-6041 for more information.
The hospital Gift Shop is managed by the Hospital Auxiliary. All profits from this service are donated to the hospital for the purchase of needed equipment and supplies to benefit patients. Phone Number: 468-6044 Hours
